I would not buy a random local lead list when competitor research can tell you who already buys in your market. Lists are fast. Context is what gets replies.
Start with who already wins locally
Pick three competitors. Not national brands — local operators you keep seeing.
Scrape ethically is the wrong frame. Research publicly:
- Google Maps results for your core queries
- review sites
- chamber directories
- supplier pages that list clients
- social profiles with tagged locations
You are mapping where demand already clusters.
Turn research into segments
Group prospects by similarity:
- same neighborhood
- same service tier
- same obvious pain (slow website, bad photos, no online booking)
Your pitch should change per segment. One script is lazy.
Capture fields you will actually use
Business name, role if known, source URL, why they are on your list, last verified date.
If you cannot fill "why," delete the row.
Outreach needs a reason
"I saw you on the same vendor list as {competitor}" beats "I help businesses grow."
Local selling is still human.
Build the list like a researcher, contact like a neighbor, not like a dialer farm.
