I would not pitch a startup as lowering living costs without proof it saves real money. The category sounds noble. Investors like it. Press likes it. Customers are tired. They have heard ten apps promise cheaper groceries, cheaper rent, cheaper everything.
That does not mean the opportunity is fake. It means the bar is higher than a slide that says "we help people save."
What actually passes the smell test
I would ask one blunt question: which line item on a normal household budget drops because of you?
Not "wellness." Not "peace of mind." A number.
Rent? Utilities? Food? Insurance? Childcare? Commuting?
